Workshop (1h)
VIIRS Dark Target Aerosol Product

Richard Kleidman
NASA/GSFC, Science Systems and Applications INC

Introduction to the VIIRS-DT aerosol product for users already familiar with MODIS-DT : similarities and known differences between the two products, tools that can be used to analyze both.

For over fifteen years, the MODIS dark target (MODIS-DT) aerosol product has been a staple of climate, air quality, and other aerosol research.  This same aerosol retrieval algorithm is now being applied to VIIRS instrument data, providing an aerosol product that is similar in form and content to the MODIS heritage.   Thus, VIIRS-DT can be easily be used for the same research and applications as MODIS-DT.  This one hour workshop introduces the VIIRS-DT aerosol product to users already familiar with MODIS-DT. We will highlight the similarities and known differences between the two products, as well as present tools that can be used to analyze both.  For attendees bringing a laptop to the training, there will be opportunity to use the tools to examine the VIIRS data in a hands-on session.

Richard Kleidman will be the instructor for this session.  He has been a member of the MODIS Dark Target Aerosol group since 1993 and has led dozens of NASA training sessions.

Note: This session is intended for those who are already familiar with (MODIS) satellite aerosol products.  If you are new to this area and still wish to attend please contact the instructor prior to enrolling.
