The aerosol and gases effects on health, air quality and climate are affecting policy decisions and have direct impact on energy use and economic activities around the world.
West Africa is the largest source of dust and marine aerosols
emission worldwide. Moreover every year, a large amount of black carbon is produced by biomas burning. This field campaign will describe precisely the situation when particles (dust, marine aerosols, and black carbon) mix together.

Two major objectives:
- To implement the documentation in physical and chemical properties of aerosols in a region where the amount of aerosols is important
- To study the dynamic of aerosols (evolution of optical and chemical properties)

Location
West Africa - Senegal - M'Bour - Observatoire de GĂ©ophysique, Institut de Recherche pour le DĂ©veloppement
The Observatory takes part in the international network AERONET, with over 20 years experience in photometric measurements and 9 eyars experience in LIDAR measurements. The team also took part in the project AMMA - African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses

Organization
Total period : 6 month, including instruments wintering
2 highlights : intensive observation periods of 6-8 weeks
March - April 2015
December 2015 - January 2016
