IMAGETNA-2 : an atmospheric measurement campaign to study du panache de l’ETNA à l’aide de nouvelles instrumentations

Hervé Herbin, LOA, is involved in a measurement campaign named IMAGETNA-2 organized from 17th to 23rd September 2017 on the active volcanoes Etna and Stromboli.
The project IMAGETNA-2 will bring new insights for Labex CaPPA’s WP1, WP2 and WP3. Beyond various objectives, IMAGETNA-2 aims at determining concentrations of sulfur, nitrogeneous and chlorine gaseous species ; measuring liquid and solid particles emitted during the degassing process ; instrumental comparison between infrared measurements by emission or solar transmission.
Infrared instrument with high spectral resolution (0.16 cm-1) called CHRIS has been set up for the first time on such campaign. CHRIS (Compact High spectral Resolution Infrared Spectrometer) is an instrumental prototype financed by the Labex CaPPA. Aerosol samples were also collected. Their mineralogical and optical properties will be analyzed thanks to a collaboration between PC2A, LOA and UCCS.
IMAGETNA-2 is a collaborative project involving french laboratories LATMOS (Paris) and LPC2E (Orléans), and a canadian company Telops.
